What is the difference between Terraform and Pulumi?

How do you manage Terraform state safely in a team?

Remote state in AWS S3 with DynamoDB locking (or Terraform Cloud) prevents concurrent modifications and stores state securely outside of Git. State should never be stored in Git — it often contains sensitive values.

What is Terragrunt and when should I use it?

Terragrunt is a thin wrapper that adds keep-your-code-DRY patterns to Terraform — multi-environment configuration without copy-pasting, automatic remote state backend configuration, and dependency ordering between modules. We use it for codebases with 3+ environments or 10+ modules.

Can Terraform manage resources that already exist in my cloud account?

Yes, via terraform import. You point Terraform at an existing resource ID and it pulls its current state into the Terraform state file. From that point, Terraform manages it. We run import projects to bring entire legacy accounts under code control.

How do you handle Terraform in a CI/CD pipeline safely?
